That title pretty much tells you that this won’t be one of my typical posts. You all know that I’m not a “shock them with controversy” kind of girl. I don’t often even mention politics and I hate confrontation. I like for everybody to get along, be happy and enjoy learning new things with me! So, what’s up with that title??
I checked my e-mail a few minutes ago. My dear bloggy friend Erin at The Humbled Homemaker sent out a post and I was just getting around to reading it. My Facebook fast has me a bit out of touch, so I didn’t know what I was getting into when I opened the e-mail. Abortion.
The word makes me flinch. It makes my heart ache, not just for all the babies, but for their broken and hurting mamas, too. I know that many people react to the horrors [...]
Please don’t panic. I’m not disappearing forever, just for… a month (it sounds like a really loooooong time, doesn’t it??). The month of April, to be exact. I’ll still be putting out new blog posts, responding to comments here on my blog and answering e-mails. I’ll also be scheduling Facebook updates to let you all know when I have new posts on my blog or products in my online store. I just won’t be sticking around on Facebook to read or respond to comments or “play”. After my month is up, I’ll be back, though I’ll be limiting my Facebook time to make sure it stays reasonable.
I really enjoy connecting with my family, friends and readers on Facebook. I love that it’s so easy to connect with so many of you all at once. It’s fun to be able to have nearly instant conversations among several [...]
Today I took a bold stand. I said that, I do not give my money to a company that *to my knowledge* openly supports sin. It’s impossible to know 100% for certain about all the practices of every single company I buy from, but when I know for certain that a company is using their influence and money to promote sin, I don’t support them. I try to buy locally, buy from Christian companies or, at the very least, buy fair-trade (or an equivalent) in the hopes of *not* supporting child labor, sex trafficking, employee abuse/neglect and similar sins. No, I can’t know everything and do it perfectly, but I do my very best.
Although that stand upset many people, what really got the nasty comments going on Facebook (and, yes, I do delete nasty comments) was the specific sin that I’m choosing not to support with [...]
All of my life I was certain that I didn’t like gardening. I hadn’t ever actually tried it, but it just seemed like a boring, tedious activity. After our first daughter was born I had the inexplicable urge to grow my own tomatoes, herbs and veggies. We built several raised beds and filled them full of seedlings. Guess what. I love gardening! There is something so peaceful and rejuvenating about it. There is a sense of accomplishment when you serve food grown in your own garden. Teaching our girls about how God made the plants and why the bees like the blossoms- those are some of my favorite summer memories with our eldest!

I know that most of us make New Year’s Resolutions (or “re-evaluations”) having to do with health or weight. We all want to have more energy, feel better and look our best, so we tend to vow that we WILL exercise 30 minutes a day or run x many miles a week. While that works for some, I know that many mamas out there just can’t scrape together the uninterpreted time. A good way to get more activity is to use what I call cues.
To figure out what cues will work best for you, think of things you do every day and attach an activity to each thing. Whenever you do your regular thing, you’ll be adding something to it that will get your heart pumping and/or work some muscles.
Here are some ideas to get your creative juices flowing!
Morning Routine Do squats while you brush your [...]
This week we are delving into some re-evaluation of the last year and making direction changes for this year. We want to end up better than we start, right? It’s all about forward progress. Read this post and this post to learn about evaluating last year and changing direction for this year, just so we’re all on the same page.
So, do you control your emotions, or do they control you? I have to confess, mine are often in the driver’s seat, so this is my BIG direction change that I’ll be working on this year. How about you? Do you find yourself thinking, or even saying, any of these things?
“I can’t help how I feel.” “I can’t act (fill in the blank) if that isn’t how I feel.” “He/she makes me so upset.” “I’m just being real.” (when acting on feelings) “I’m just a [...]
Finally! In celebration of reaching 1,000 Facebook “likes” and passing my one-year mark as a blogger, we are launching our Etsy store. We would like to thank you, dear readers, by cordially inviting you to come browse our store and enter to win a $30 credit to our store!
Before I start gushing about how wonderful this will be for your Christmas shopping list (hint, hint!!!), I’d like to point out one little detail. The name of my Etsy store is “CreativeChristianMom” not “CreativeChristianMama”. Etsy has limited store names to one less character than I needed, so I switched from “mama” to “mom”. I hope that doesn’t cause mass hysteria and confusion, but it was the best I could do.
Now, on to the fun part! What do we have at our Etsy store? First off, we have some adorable girls’ apron and headband sets! If [...]
Today I’m guest posting over at Modern Alternative Mama.
Friday was our tenth anniversary! It seems unreal that we have been married for an entire decade. Over these last ten years, we’ve learned some ways to encourage a healthy marriage. Although I’ll share our own examples, your marriage will look different — and that’s good! The idea is to work together to figure out what works for you…

We took our not-yet-six-month-old camping last week. Yep, we’re a little crazy, but if you’ve been around here awhile, you already know that. Our four-year-old, Pumpkin, has been camping once before and did splendidly both times. This was the first trip for Babykins. We spent one night and had a ton of fun, but there are some things we’ll do differently, next time.
What we did right We all slept together on a king-sized air mattress in a king-sized sleeping bag (actually, it’s two sleeping bags zipped together). This was so important for keeping the little ones warm on a cold night. We brought a baby hanging jumper- the kind that hangs from a door frame. My idea was to hang it from a tree branch, but it took a few bungi cords and some acrobatics to get it right…We couldn’t reach the branch, so hubby had to climb. Hehehe [...]
We don’t do a New Year’s “Resolution”, we do a “Reevaluation”. For some people, setting specific goals (“I will lose 15 pounds by the end of March”) works beautifully. Not for us. Considering the number of people who actually follow through on their resolutions, it just doesn’t work for most people. Several years ago we came up with an alternative that has actually made an amazing difference in our perspectives and values. Instead of setting a concrete goal, we reset the direction of our lives. Here’s how it works.
First, we make some time to sit down together, without interruption. Usually we plan this for several days before the New Year so that we have time to think about the things we talk about. This is our time to reflect on the year we’ve had. We talk about what God has taught us, how we’ve grown, what we’ve accomplished, and [...]
