When I began to make changes to detox my life as we moved towards more natural living, one thing that I had trouble with was finding a good option for removing grease stains from clothing. None of the crazy expensive all-natural stain removers worked and the toxic synthetic ones just weren’t an option I was comfortable with using. After much trial and error, I finally found a safe, natural and effective solution!
So, what is a natural mama to do when a big ol’ grease stain ends up on one of her favorite shirts?? I gracefully dribbled grease down the front of my shirt while biting into a sausage, which you can see in the photo on the left. Here’s what I did to save my shirt from the grease stain without dousing it in nasty toxins.
Dab off as much grease as possible. Apply real eucalyptus essential oil […]
Since I’ve mentioned in a couple of posts how much I adore this homemade, non-toxic cleaner, I figured it’s time to tell you how to make it. This recipe is based on several other ones that I’ve seen on-line, so I am not claiming it as my own. This is just my variation…
1 quart warm water 1 ½ T. liquid castile soap (I use Sal Suds Liquid Cleanser 32 Ounces) 15 drops each lemon and orange essential oils Optional, for extra disinfecting power: 5 drops each tea tree and eucalyptus essential oil
Fill a 1 quart (32 ounce) spray bottle (I found this heavy-duty one in the cleaning aisle at Target) half way up with warm water. Add the liquid castile soap (eyeball it) and slowly fill the bottle to within 1 ½ inches of the top. You might need to wait a few minutes for the bubbles […]
The bathrooms are the second part of my getting-the-house-back-to-normal effort, to recover from the neglect they suffered while I was busy obsessing over some fun baby projects. My kitchen is sparkling and functional again (I have some acorn squash baking in the oven to prove it!), but the bathrooms were too grimy to leave for another day.
Granted, this is not a method to deep-clean, but if you need to get your whole house cleaned up with minimal effort in minimal time, it’s perfect! I actually did this for the first time about two weeks ago, but I timed myself again, just to be sure it wasn’t a fluke. It’s true. You can get your bathroom “company ready” in under 7 minutes! Today, I did both bathrooms in 14 minutes. AND, I used only my homemade, non-toxic cleaner, so there were no nasty fumes going in this pregnant mama’s […]
