Why Data Science Is the Fastest Growing Career in the US

December 1, 2020 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

According to LinkedIn, data science is one of the fastest-growing jobs in the United States. This growth can be attributed to the fact that people are starting to look into jobs of the future as automation and technology start replacing different roles. With reports and publications continuing to name data science as one of the top jobs in the United States and around the world, it is important to look at why this is the case.

The Application of Data Science Is Expanding

Data scientists are no longer only responsible for using their engineering skills to analyze and help us understand data; they are also being used in other areas. A common area is in business where data scientists are becoming an integral part of the decision-making process.

The insights they glean from the data they collect and analyze are being used by stakeholders to drive business decisions in these digital times. This is why institutions like the Merrimack College are offering Masters of Science in Data Science degrees, which you can apply for at https://onlinedsa.merrimack.edu/data-science/. These courses combine data science skills with business skills to cater to the expanding roles of data scientists and arm them with the requisite business skills required in today’s workspaces.

We Are Creating More Data Than Ever Before

Today, we are creating about 2.5 quintillion bytes of data a day. For each data entry point, companies need to understand it and what they can do with it. For example, they may want to know which social media posts had the most likes and shares. Due to the explosion of the amount of data we create every day, the demand for data scientists with the skills to analyze it and make it more digestible will continue to increase.

Data Is Changing the Way Businesses Operate

Machine learning, which overlaps with data science, is a type of artificial intelligence where machines and algorithms learn and evolve and can be used to make decisions. Machine learning is everywhere and more businesses are using it to make correct decisions based on past data. By doing so, they can save time and resources while making their decision-making processes a lot more efficient.

The Growth of Startups

Startups are everywhere, and with technology startups infiltrating almost all industries, data scientists are critical for the early-stages. Data scientists are not only required for the tasks that strictly fall under data science, but also in business analytics, machine learning as we saw above, and database maintenance.

For these startups, data scientists are taking over and replacing traditional roles like statistical, economic, and revenue projections.

Data Science Is Solving Some Major Challenges

Artificial intelligence, data science, and robotics are being used to solve some of the challenges we have not been able to solve with traditional tools. Data analysis, used with predictive analysis, is being used to tackle childhood obesity, food shortages, and to predict how much risk a person is at for certain diseases and conditions like cancer.

There is no doubt that data is all around us, and there is a need for data scientists who can do something with this data to make our world a better place, help businesses make better decisions, and help us take on some of the most stubborn challenges we face today.

3 Reasons Why Having A Master’s Degree Will Help You

November 6, 2020 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

Whatever you want to do in life, having a good education behind you will enhance everything and give you more choices overall. The more qualifications you have, the more you know, the more you can do, and the more choice you will have and, in the end, having a greater choice means you’ll have greater happiness. You won’t have to ‘make do’ with a job and lifestyle just because it was all that was open to you.

You can see from the above why people choose to go to college and study for a bachelor’s degree. Instead of working right out of high school, taking on a degree will give you more education, teach you more life skills and help decide the ultimate direction you want to go in.

Isn’t this enough? Isn’t this going to help most people? If so, why would anyone study for a master’s degree after they have completed their bachelor’s degree? There are many reasons; find out more by reading on.

Stand Out In A Crowded Job Market

Finding a good job can be hard and the more popular it is, the more people will apply. If you’re one of them, you need to ensure you can be noticed in a crowded job market – otherwise, you could miss out on your ideal career. If you are looking for a job you can enjoy and that is interesting, one that pays well, one that offers plenty of scope for promotion and success, then you won’t be the only one and the competition will be fierce.

Having a Boston College MHA will ensure you are noticed above everyone else. There will be relatively few people with a master’s degree, more people with a bachelor’s degree and even more people with no degree at all. You will want to go in the top tier so that you have the best chance of getting the job you want.

Start Your Own Business

When you start your own business, you don’t have to have any degree at all. You don’t need to have any qualifications or education. This is why starting a business today is easier and more accessible than it has ever been and why so many people are choosing to do it.

Even though you don’t have to have a degree to do this if it is what you want to do, having a master’s degree will help you be more successful – particularly if your degree was in business or economics. When you have a degree, you will have picked up many different skills, all of which can be used in business. These include:

  • Research
  • Timekeeping
  • Budgeting
  • Networking
  • Communication
  • Planning

These skills will all help in business, with the added benefit of whatever you studied being there to help you get further too.

Pursue Your Interests More Deeply

Even if the master’s degree you studied has nothing to do with the career you want or the one you already had, studying to learn more about an interest you wish to pursue is always worth the work.

Life shouldn’t be all about work and if you have a hobby or interest that intrigues you, why not learn more about it through a college degree? It might not help you make more money or get a great job, but it will help you be happier and that’s just as important.

5 Medical Facts You Never Knew

October 29, 2020 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

It would take a miracle to live your adult life without ever having to visit the doctor. For such a normal, routine part of being a human being, however, how much do you actually know about the profession?

These five medical facts are pieces of trivia that you probably never knew. Hidden in the nuggets are fascinating pieces of information about how doctors earn a living, how doctors break into the medical profession, where medical experts purchase their supplies from and when doctors are celebrated across the United States.

1. Doctors Work More Average Hours than Other Americans

Compared to the average American, doctors work more hours per day and week. Part of this is down to how long they train for – 40,000 hours of training is the equivalent of 20 years of full-time work. Then, for the remainder of their working lives, doctors work around 1.5 times more than the majority of other Americans.

It is common knowledge that being a doctor is a tiring and testing job, but now the statistics prove it. To work the same number of hours as a doctor does in 36 years, the average American has to work for over half a century. If that doesn’t give you new-found respect, nothing will.

2. Medical School Debt Is So High Many Doctors Work an Extra Job

While doctors are among the highest earners in society (more on that later), their debts are often so high that they are forced into working additional professions alongside.

In medical school, debts can soar and the taking out of private loans is a daunting prospect. For this reason, some doctors choose to work multiple other jobs while they train in order to survive without placing themselves in further financial danger.

3. Doctors Are Among the Highest Earners in Society

Freshly qualified doctors earn around $60,000 per year. From there, salaries can increase upwards to around the $150,000-$200,000 mark and even higher for specialists.

Considering the services they provide and the tough years of training – often while strapped for cash – this is generally perceived as fair reward.

4. Medical Supplies Often Come From One Trusted Supplier

You know where doctors come from, but what about their supplies? Medical practices build strong relationships with suppliers so that they do not have to purchase supplies such as cleaning products, needles and first aid equipment from multiple places.

Top providers of GP supplies have years of experience, quick delivery times and low prices. Next time you are receiving treatment, then, pay thanks to those trusty suppliers.

5. March 30th is National Doctors’ Day

This date was chosen as it is the anniversary of the first ever use of general anesthesia in surgery, all the way back in 1842. It is the same date in Australia but varies elsewhere around the globe.

This day recognizes and celebrates how doctors have affected the lives of millions, with cards and flowers sent around medical staff by their practices. It is also commonplace for flowers been laid at the graves of former doctors and physicians.

Top Tips for Parents of College Kids: How Can You Enhance Their Success?

April 24, 2020 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

Getting into college is one of the most critical moments of a teenager’s life, and for many parents, the lead-up of getting into a good institution can be a stressful time. Each year, more than 17 million people embark on their college journey, which is an experience that shapes them to become young adults and leads them into their desired career.

Students must make the most of their college life to enhance their future success, so it’s only natural as a parent to wish to be well-equipped with the necessary information to steer your child in the right direction.

Here are some useful tips to make a note of, if you’re a parent about to send your child off to college:

Talk them through the admissions requirements

Before applying for colleges, your child must be aware of which institutions they have a chance of being accepted into. Some colleges have higher grade boundaries than others, which means carrying out research beforehand is essential in finding out what is realistically achievable. Typically, college entry at Ohio state GPA, amongst many others, is based on the individual’s SAT score, ACT score, and GPA. It is a great idea to sit down with your child and calculate their average scores to determine which universities may be an option for them. This will give them goals to aim for and a clear focus when sitting their exams.

Don’t pick your child’s course – but offer advice where possible

Your child should be able to choose their course, so it wouldn’t be a good idea to overrule their course decision. They must pick a subject they are comfortable with and plays to their interests to succeed. It’s perfectly reasonable to voice your own opinion to help them make the best decision for their future goals, but they should have the final say on which course they wish to choose.

Encourage them to see their professor

Once your child has been accepted into college, they will be assigned a professor who they can turn to if they have any queries or issues. Many students ignore the opportunity to have regular meetings with their professors, which can be a huge mistake for their educational development. They may be struggling with lesson topics in the early days or find difficulty building on friendships with other freshmen, which is making them feel socially isolated. Encourage them to make an appointment with their professor to talk about any issues they have as soon as they arise. After all, you are paying the fees, so they have every right to make the most of this resource.

Do be aware that it is never good to phone the professor yourself. Unlike school where parents were entitled to get involved with their child’s education, this is very much discouraged in college. Students must stand on their own two feet to pursue their goals. In some colleges, there is even a ‘dean of parents’ with the principle aim of limiting parental interference.

Helpful Steps to Learn Anything Quickly

October 11, 2018 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

Life is a learning process whether you are still in school or not. Students have the benefit of accessing numerous learning resources like El Rincon del Vago website and the library. Access to helpful tutors also solves most of their learning questions. However, it is important that both students and other people understand the best way to learn anything quickly. Experts in learning call it meta learning or learning to learn.

Since most people are oblivious of this skill, then this article will highlight the important steps to succeed in learning anything. It is not a standard, but it has been a success for most people according to research. After all, fast learners always have an upper hand in anything. Follow the steps, and you will not regret it.

Pareto’s Law: 80/20 Rule

Most people who have been to school might have heard about the 80/20 rule. Simply, Vilfredo Pareto, an Italian economist, came up with this rule to tell people that 20 percent of your inputs will determine 80 percent of outputs. All lifehackers will agree to this rule because it applies very well in life. For the scholars, this rule tells you that you need to focus on a few things and do them thoroughly rather than jumping all over. However, make sure that your focus is related to what you want to achieve in life.

Method Is More Important Than Duration

Some people take a lot of time to study a concept only to realize that it was a waste of time because they used the wrong method. Students who study using the right methods do not need to spend sleepless nights studying. Every person must understand the method that works best for her or him and adopt it. Spending many hours studying will only increase fatigue in your body and cause loss of concentration.

Just Do It

Learning by doing is one of the best ways to understand something fast. That is why reputable schools like Ginas College of Advanced Aesthetics have practical lessons. In real life, you can do it practically as you learn. According to studies, any sport becomes easy to learn when people learn by doing. This also applies to all other activities and concepts in life. Doing it also allows people to learn through mistakes. And, people rarely forget this way. So, if possible, just do it.

Get a Trainer

Sometimes, it defies logic to continue doing something incorrectly when you can have an experienced person teach you how. Imagine if schools had no teachers. The students would not know much. Tutors and trainers simplify the learning process especially if this is what they are trained to do. One can easily get a trainer for anything in life whether this person is paid or not. Sports teams need a coach to train them on how to do things the best way. In most cases, these are experienced sports people. Follow this method to succeed in learning anything faster as well.

Conclusion

Learning is an interesting journey since human beings are always curious and eager to know more. Follow these steps and you will realize how easy it is to learn new things. You will use less time than many other people.

How to Make Your Mom Blog into a Huge Hit

August 7, 2018 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

Mom blogs are a popular theme on the Internet, and, because every mother has a certain style of parenting, no one blog is the same. Done right, you can build a real community of moms and mothers-to-be that can help you make friends, gain insights, and even bring in an income. There are so many benefits to running a successful mom blog, but first you need to follow this guide on how to make your mom blog into a huge hit.

Stick with a Niche That Makes You Unique

A mom blog is already a niche that you can work with, but to really hit the ground running with your blog you are going to need to choose a more specific niche than that. If you are a mom who is raising a child that has a learning difficulty, that is an important niche that you can work with. If you are a mom who is homeschooling her children, that is another great niche to use. The more specific you are with what makes your parenting style different, the better, because then you enjoy improved search rankings on search engines, and more page visits from mothers looking for help in your position.

Clean Up Your Website

Now that you know what niche you want to work with, it’s time to clean up your website. This overhaul is important for a few reasons. It will help your website feel more focused and professional, it will help you make it more user-friendly, and it will help you optimize your site for SEO. This is especially important if you already have a lot of content on your site and even a fair amount of page hits. Cleaning up your website will help improve it for everyone, but knowing what it needs is another matter entirely. Hire an SEO audit from clickintelligence.co.uk and you will know what is needed and even have a team of professionals available to improve your site from the ground up.

Create Engaging Content Regularly

Another mistake many mom bloggers make is that they don’t post often enough. You don’t need to keep content updated with your life, but rather you need to provide your subscribers and readers with a steady stream of content they can enjoy. This is also great for SEO, as Google ranks active websites more highly than ones that have been abandoned for months on end. Write articles and stagger them in weekly or bi-weekly updates to keep your site fresh and community engaged.

Use Social Media to Boost Site Visits

Social media can be used to significantly boost your website’s page visitors, which is why it is important that you start being more active on your social accounts now. Not only can you build a community, but you can also make friends. Communicate and collaborate as often as you can. Write guest posts, host guest hosts, meet up with mom bloggers in your area, and so on. Join the community and build your own audience from it. That way you can enjoy new followers and real engagement from people who want to read and follow your story and parenting advice.

Mom blogs are an important part of motherhood, because not only can you join the mother community, you can help others out there who are in the same position as you and give yourself something to focus on. This can help you be a better mother and make friends, and, the more successful your site, the more likely you can start a business with it.

Make it Easy for Your Kids to Learn Origami with these Tips

April 25, 2018 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

If you are looking for some arts and crafts ideas, you may want to consider making origami. Here are ways on how you can make it easy for your kids to learn origami with these simple and easy to follow tips.

Getting the Paper

One of the best parts about making origami art is that all is required is a piece of paper. You will not need to purchase any expensive paper from an arts and crafts store. Any paper you have on hand can be used effectively and put you on the path to creating some unique and fun origami art. The more paper you have the better, as you will have more than enough material to try out different designs.

Don’t Make It Difficult

Before your child begins making origami, make sure you start them off with something easy to make. Origami folds differ in their levels of difficulty. It is better to start off with an easy to follow design. That way, your child can get the hang of how to do it. It can be easy to get carried away and try and make a design completely out of your depth. If your child is struggling, make sure to let them know that practice makes perfect and give them as much motivation as you can.

Staying Inside the Lines

Children are not known for their patience or neatness, however, keeping inside the lines when creating origami will help create the best pattern possible. One of the main tips when creating origami is to focus on folding precisely and neatly, as opposed to trying to quickly get to the end of the instructions. When you are folding, the instructions can become confusing, but it is important to remember that each instruction needs to be followed carefully to finish with a good outcome. Also, staying consistent and motivated is a key trait to helping your child stay on track and finish a task.

Be Creative

Another great reason to let your child have a go at origami is giving them the freedom to create whatever they desire. Opening their imagination and putting all their thoughts and ideas onto paper can be a wonderful way to physically express their feelings. Being imaginative and thinking outside the box can enable your child to create a unique origami pattern.

It’s Just Paper

The main thing to remember about origami is that it is just paper. If your child falls at the first hurdle, make sure to reassure them and let them know that there is plenty more paper and they can have another go. It can be easy to lose motivation at the beginning, but if your child stays focused and determined, they can end up creating some fantastic origami. Websites like origamiway.com will provide you with more details on the diverse designs and patterns that you can make.

Learning and making distinctive designs and shapes out of origami should be a fun and exciting experience for your child. If your child is struggling with making a certain design, make sure to be on hand for support should your child need any assistance.

Ryan Grigson – An Inspiration to Many Young Footballers

April 24, 2018 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

If there’s anybody an young footballer should look up to, it’s Ryan Grigson. There’s no doubt he has great passion in football. When he got injured in college, he didn’t stop pursuing his goals. Everyone thought he won’t be able to play anymore due to how severe his injury was. However, he proved everyone wrong when he came back the next year. He even became one of the captains for his college team. A lot of college teams saw his great potential as he was drafted out of college in the sixth round of the 1995 NFL Draft. It didn’t work out for the teams he played there but he didn’t let that stop him from reaching his goals. He went to Canada and continued his professional career there. Of course, things don’t always go as planned as he ended up getting injured once again. This sport isn’t ballet after all. It’s a very physical sport so you don’t have to look down on yourself when you get injured. When you don’t get injured for a long time, you’re very lucky.

When his professional career ended, he didn’t want to leave the sport. He still wanted to contribute to teams in the best way he can. Since he had a great eye for talent, he was hired as a scout by the St. Louis Rams and the Philadelphia Eagles. During his tenure as a scout, he met a lot of up and coming players. He made excellent recommendations on who should be drafted and who shouldn’t. Of course, his long experience playing the sport helped him in his decision making.

As the General Manager for the Indianapolis Colts, Ryan Grigson showed great potential for his decision making. He’s very young for someone at his position and he was a lot better than his counterparts. He led the Colts to huge wins over some of their most fiercest rivals. He was a big reason the Colts improved their win-loss record drastically despite the fact that they retained most of their roster. The season before that, they had a 2-14 record. When Grigson took over, they finished with an 11-5 record and Grigson’s hard work didn’t go unnoticed as he won Executive of the Year from two publications. After that, he made a great move when he acquired Trent Richardson after the team was looking to replace the production left by the injury to Vick Ballard.

In fact, Colts management saw him as their catalyst in the future when they decided to extend his contract through 2019. He made so many convincing decisions that not only pleased management but their fan base too. It didn’t take long for attendance in their games to increase. Fans saw how determined Grigson was to improve the team’s weaknesses. He moved the team’s liabilities and turned them into awesome assets. Other than signing good players, he also got coaches who knew their roles. It was only a matter of time before good things happened to the team he vowed to take to the promised land.

3 Kinetic energy experiments!

April 23, 2018 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

If you enjoy teaching your kids about the wonders of science and are interested in leading your children through a few kinetic energy, Stephen Buzzi thinks you should continue reading to discover a few fun kinetic energy experiments, which are sure to amaze your kids.

3 Kinetic energy experiments:

  1. Bouncing balls experiment

If you’d prefer to start off with a basic experiment, which can’t go wrong, it’s well worth starting with this simple ball focused experiment. Start off by acquiring two balls. A heavy, large ball and a much smaller, lighter ball. Get another individual to place the large ball on your hand and then to balance the smaller ball on top of your large ball. Try and keep your hand still, so that both balls are balanced on the palm of your hand. Now place your hand on top of the smaller ball, so that your child or friend can safely take their hand away.

Quickly take your hand of the small ball, so that both balls fall down to the ground. You should find that the larger ball hits the ground and that the smaller ball hits the larger ball, instead of the floor and bounces up high into the air. As the kinetic energy which the larger ball picked up on its fall, has been transferred to the smaller ball. When the smaller ball bounced onto the larger ball.

  1. Water bending experiment

If your kids love magic, they may be thrilled to be given the opportunity to bend water with a simple, plastic comb. To conduct this mind-bending science experiment turn your tap’s faucet on so that a steady but controlled stream of water starts to run into your sink. Next, give your child a cheap, plastic comb and instruct them to brush their hair vigorously for a minute, so that kinetic energy is created.

Here comes the fun part. Next, instruct your child to move their comb next to your water stream and you should find that it bends its way away from your child’s cheap, plastic comb. Which will be sure to amaze your kids and yourself.

  1. Speed racers

Using building blocks construct two different ramps to race toy cars down. One ramp which is steeper than the other. Then place a toy car at the top of each ramp and release them at the same time, to see how the angle and steepness of a ramp, will affect the speed of any objects which race down them. If you don’t have any toy cars on hand you can use balls of the same size to complete this particular experiment instead.

After completing this particular experiment, your kids should understand why they slide faster down steeper slides at the playground than slides which boast a less severe incline.

So if your kids have a passion for science and find conducting science experiments at home, plenty of fun it’s well worth setting up the 3 fun-filled kinetic energy experiments listed above, on a rainy day. When it’s too wet for your kids to play outside!
