Are You A Tech Wiz? These Are The Best Career Paths For You

It’s everyone’s dream – having a job that’s also aligned with your specific individual interests and strengths. After all, many people go for jobs where it’s just getting a job for the sake of getting a job and it’s not remotely in line with their interests, which breeds contempt and boredom in the workplace. If you’re blessed enough to have the opportunity to seek out a role that’s more in tune with what you like to do, you should definitely go for it. One such career path you can choose to take is to get into technology. Are you a tech wiz? Love how things like software work? Maybe you’re looking for a software development job in San Francisco. If not though, these are some other top careers that you should consider.

Blockchain Developer

A blockchain developer is what it says on the tin. If you know anything about blockchain technology, you will know that it’s what made BitCoin famous. Essentially blockchains take pieces of information and store them in specific areas called blocks. These blocks are linked through cryptography and use keys – or passwords – to access the information. Using advanced encryption to keep information safe, blockchains are becoming hugely popular for many companies who want to have that extra layer of security when it comes to storing pertinent information. Not only this, but blockchain tech allows everyday people to make money by offering up their storage systems as a part of a wider network of decentralised storage that others can use to keep their data off site, making it safer. That is why blockchain development jobs in San Francisco and other parts of the US will continue to grow as more companies will choose to utilize this technology to safeguard their important data.

AI Engineer

One area of tech development that is only looking to increase ten fold is the area of AI – or artificial intelligence. AI can be used in multiple areas and industries, from working in factories to offices, running errands for business executives or helping make lives easier for everyday people. AI is only just starting to pick up in terms of the uses that it’s being developed for, so it’s a great place to go if you want to explore futuristic possibilities of artificial intelligence.

SEO Specialist

An SEO specialist plays an important role in getting a business seen by its potential customers. By researching and analysing the keywords that rank highest when dealing with a specific type of business, SEO specialists can help suggest the keywords to use in content on websites and blogs to get the highest amount of potential traffic to a site. They also tend to analyse things like ROI – return on investments – essentially ensuring that any money that is paid by the company to promote its search engine optimisation is returning on the initial investment in the form of customer conversions and sales. An SEO specialist can be an integral part of your team – especially if you’re a newer company looking to increase or start up a customer base.

There you have a couple of really cool jobs you should consider looking into if you’re a bit of a tech wiz. There’s so many cool jobs out there in the world of technology that can really help bolster both your own career as well as the longevity of a business. Good luck and enjoy all the benefits that a career in technology can bring you.

What Are the Most Common Things That Can Go Wrong with Your PC?

April 9, 2018 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

When your personal PC is important to you, then you’re always a little concerned about what might go wrong with it. When you use it for some creative side-hustles to make some extra money, it’s even more important that it doesn’t malfunction.

Here are the most common things that can happen to a PC.

BSOD – Blue Screen of Death

The dreaded Blue Screen of Death is a blue error screen that appears on the Windows operating system when it has encountered an error preventing it from continuing to operate. There will be a STOP error with a code that you should immediately write down. You can then search for this error in Google to find out what it refers to.

In most cases, the Blue Screen of Death results from a bad device driver that is faulty, improperly installed or clashing with another driver. Drivers help Windows communicate with and use devices like the graphics card, modem and other components in the PC. Also, when unplugging or plugging in something new (or old), Windows can sometimes throw a fit and up comes the blue screen.

Follow the information provided when searching for the STOP code to find out how to resolve the error and prevent Windows from repeatedly crashing.

Your Screen Dies

Separate monitors or flat-panel displays on laptops can suddenly stop displaying anything. Other times, the backlight is failing, and the whiteness level will appear inconsistent across the screen.

There are several options in either case. With a laptop, the flat panel itself could be swapped out for a new one. With a separate monitor, this could be replaced (perhaps under warranty). If you’re unsure whether the PC has a faulty external port or a malfunctioning dedicated graphics card, then you could borrow the use of a friend’s monitor to plug it into your computer and see if you can see anything on their display. If you don’t, then likely something has malfunctioned inside your computer. If you do see a normal display, then most likely it’s only the monitor or flat-panel display that needs replacing.

Laptop Battery Stops Working

Batteries tend to only last 1-2 years before they start giving memory drain problems. At this point, you’re experiencing reduced capacity issues until the battery fails entirely. You’re best buying a replacement battery if your laptop is going to be used for at least a year or you need it on the road. Otherwise, if you have reliable power at home, then consider running on a power outlet alone. Bear in mind that each time a power cut happens, your laptop will turn off which could get very annoying!

Internal or External Drive Failure

You may be using an external drive and it starts to have disk corruption issues. Important files that you use regularly could become inaccessible and then you’re in trouble. If your main drive should fail, then you won’t be able to boot your computer into Windows and will only be able to use it when booting up via a USB flash drive with a portable operating system like Ubuntu temporarily.

When you’re having serious disk integrity issues and files are becoming corrupted, consider contacting Secure Data Recovery for help before the problem worsens. Data loss is preventable in many situations but when leaving it too long, sometimes data is lost forever.

With a personal computer, you must be prepared for things to go wrong. Just like with all machines, eventually almost all of them will experience a malfunction. For instance, with laptops, on average one-third have a hardware failure within the first two years and two-thirds within the first three years. However, the good news is that usually the parts can be replaced, and the PC can be kept running without the need to replace it completely.

4 Benefits of Upgrading the Tech in Your Home

January 11, 2018 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

Smart appliances and apps that help turn your house into an efficient smart home seem to come out every day. With all the new technology available for your home, it can be challenging to know which upgrades will be a good investment. To make an informed decision, consider the benefits of upgrading the tech in your home.

Save Time

Ever wonder if you need eggs or milk while you’re in the grocery store? It would be a waste of time to find out after you get home and have to make a return trip to the supermarket. Smart refrigerators use apps to let you see items on the shelves right from your smartphone. Samsung’s Family HubTM series refrigerators also include touchscreens to display shopping lists and your family’s schedules. Plus, Smart Hub refrigerators can send alerts to your phone if the door is left open or the temperature changes.

Searching for lost keys is another time waster. What if you didn’t need keys at all to unlock the front door? Kwikset’s Kevo locks with the Touch-to-OpenTM feature make it possible to ditch your keys. Carry your smartphone, or a fob like you have for your car, and just touch the lock to get inside your home.

Conserve Water

Dishwashers offer convenience, but can also use a lot of water. The latest smart dishwashers use less water than older models, and can even recycle water from the previous wash. Set your dishwaters on auto, known as the eco or smart wash cycle on some models. Intelligent cycles sense how dirty your dishes are and how long to wash the dishes. The dishwasher can use less water using a smart setting.

Washing machines can also be water hogs. The latest high-efficiency washers save water and include smart features. When your connected washing machine sends an alert to your smartphone, you’ll never leave wet clothes in the washer again. Don’t worry about running your machine while you’re out of the house, either. Monitor the entire cycle with your smartphone. Smart washing machines can also send messages to a phone when it’s time for maintenance.

Feel Safe and Secure

Video doorbells boost security whether you’re at home or away. Smart doorbells use video cameras that you can monitor with your phone. You’ll get an alert if someone rings the bell, or if a motion sensor picks up movement near your door. At home, you can see who is on your doorstep before you open the door. When you’re away, make it seem as if you’re home by talking through the smart doorbell’s two-way speaker through your phone. You’ll deter burglars trying to break into your house and stop porch pirates who steal packages.

All smart appliances connect to your home Wi-Fi and communicate with smartphone apps. Upgrade your mobile phone to make sure you can take advantage of the latest tech. T-Mobile has a selection of reliable smartphones to pair with these new gadgets, such as the iPhone X and the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. Choose a phone with enough memory to run multiple apps. You’ll need to stay connected to the internet to use your smart home apps. T-Mobile phones include plans with nationwide 4G LTE coverage so you can easily run and monitor your smart appliances while you’re away.

Clean with Less Effort

Cleaning floors can be less of a chore with smart appliances. Robotic vacuums have been around for years. Now, the latest Roomba iRobot® vacuums offer connectivity through smartphone apps. With the app, you can schedule a cleaning, get push notifications when your robot finishes cleaning, and get maps of where the Roomba vacuumed.

For sticky messes on your hardwood and tile floors, put a mopping robot to work. Mopping robots can be controlled through apps also. Many apps are compatible with voice controllers such as Amazon’s Alexa and Google Home.

Which smart appliances are right for your home? Weigh the benefits of upgrading the tech in your home to decide which ones will save you the most time and money.

The Modern Conveniences We Enjoy Thanks to Civil Engineering

November 28, 2017 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

When we live our daily lives, we usually don’t think about all the different things that are around us that have been constructed by man. We don’t look at a sidewalk and wonder about the complex processes that have gone in placing it there. We don’t consider the intricate construction of the buildings we live and work in. When we flush the toilet, we don’t wonder where everything goes. These are all typical conveniences in life that we take for granted but that we should thank experts like Reddy Kancharla for. These conveniences have been made possible thanks to civil engineering.

What Are Civil Engineers?

Civil engineers like Kancharla are experts who work on our natural environment and make it fit for human population, while attempting to conserve the planet at the same time. They are the ones who make sure bridges are safe, for instance. They erect it, manage it constructions, research how it will be used, and more. They determine how long the bridge will be, how much traffic will cross it, what the natural environment around the bridge is, and more. These are all hugely important considerations in something as seemingly simple as a bridge.

Civil engineers existed long before their profession was officially recognized. Think back to our ancestors, for instance, who constructed roads or identified various natural travel paths. Human beings have always migrated all over the world, which means engineering was always required. Roads had to be constructed, as did dwellings. These were temporary structures at first, but quickly started to become more permanent. It didn’t take our ancestors long to start to demand construction techniques that would increase their comfort and make life easier as well. Those responsible for that were early civil engineers, and we have them to thank for the lives we have today.

Imagine, for a minute, the look of our planet if engineering had not been developed at all. We would have no idea of how to construct our homes, our break walls, our lighthouses, our canals, and our roads. If civil engineers hadn’t developed and shared their knowledge, then we probably would not be able to be sheltered from the awesome force of Mother Nature. Simple rainfall would flood our homes, and the real natural disasters such as heat waves, earthquakes, and hurricanes would virtually destroy society. Society, in essence, would collapse.

We live our lives today in the knowledge that we are safe, but we don’t consider how much of that safety is down to the fantastic work of civil engineers. We forget that we are not even close to being able to control Mother Nature, but that we can only live side by side with her and that this arrangement has been made possible thanks to the work of civil engineers. We owe professionals like Reddy Kancharla and all the others who are involved in this field a great deal of gratitude because, without them, we would not be able to live.

5 Smart Phone Apps That Are Integral For Your Teen’s Safety

October 15, 2017 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

Smartphones and tablets, when mixed with teenagers, can be a dangerous mix and as parents it is up to us to carefully manage what are young ones are doing online. There is so much danger attached to teenagers using smartphones from using them when driving, using them to browse things that parents won’t be happy about and even the possibility of befriending unscrupulous people. The point of all this, is that parents need to be on the front foot when it comes to protecting our teens. It is hard to strike a balance between Orwellian and caring, but that is what you need to do, and here are 5 apps to help you do it.

WhatsApp

As far as messaging services to stay in touch with your child go, WhatsApp is most definitely the best and both you and your child should have it downloaded. WhatsApp allows you to send text messages, voce messages and video messages, as well as giving you the chance to call them via voice or video. When a message has been sent you will see 2 ticks and when the recipient sees it you will see 2 blue ticks, you can also use the messenger to see when your child was last active.

Qustodio

This is a comprehensive dashboard which will help you to manage all of your child’s online activity, from what they browse, and which social media accounts they use. This is a great app if you are worried about what your child is looking at online, and who they are speaking to. It isn’t nice to snoop on your child, but it is far better to do so if you can help avoid any problems.

Mobsafety Ranger Browser

There is a huge amount of things online which you won’t want your teenager to see and for this, you can use the Ranger Browser from Mobsafety. This is a free app which allows you to see what your child has been looking at online, as well as giving you the chance to filter their searches by putting certain topics on a black or white list.

Canary – Teen Safety

Driving and using your phone is illegal, but that doesn’t stop many teens each year from doing it, and involving themselves in an accident. You can help to minimize this by downloading Canary, and app which sends you alerts when your child is not driving safely. If your child uses their phone whilst driving, you’ll also receive alerts should they drive too fast, too late or in locations that are off-limits.

Ignore No More

Kids can easily ignore your calls when you need to get in touch with them but this doesn’t have to be the way. Ignore No More is a great app which allows you to remotely lock your child’s phone, until they return your call. Your teenager won’t be ignoring you for long once you have blocked access to their social media accounts!
