Ryan Grigson – An Inspiration to Many Young Footballers

April 24, 2018 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

If there’s anybody an young footballer should look up to, it’s Ryan Grigson. There’s no doubt he has great passion in football. When he got injured in college, he didn’t stop pursuing his goals. Everyone thought he won’t be able to play anymore due to how severe his injury was. However, he proved everyone wrong when he came back the next year. He even became one of the captains for his college team. A lot of college teams saw his great potential as he was drafted out of college in the sixth round of the 1995 NFL Draft. It didn’t work out for the teams he played there but he didn’t let that stop him from reaching his goals. He went to Canada and continued his professional career there. Of course, things don’t always go as planned as he ended up getting injured once again. This sport isn’t ballet after all. It’s a very physical sport so you don’t have to look down on yourself when you get injured. When you don’t get injured for a long time, you’re very lucky.

When his professional career ended, he didn’t want to leave the sport. He still wanted to contribute to teams in the best way he can. Since he had a great eye for talent, he was hired as a scout by the St. Louis Rams and the Philadelphia Eagles. During his tenure as a scout, he met a lot of up and coming players. He made excellent recommendations on who should be drafted and who shouldn’t. Of course, his long experience playing the sport helped him in his decision making.

As the General Manager for the Indianapolis Colts, Ryan Grigson showed great potential for his decision making. He’s very young for someone at his position and he was a lot better than his counterparts. He led the Colts to huge wins over some of their most fiercest rivals. He was a big reason the Colts improved their win-loss record drastically despite the fact that they retained most of their roster. The season before that, they had a 2-14 record. When Grigson took over, they finished with an 11-5 record and Grigson’s hard work didn’t go unnoticed as he won Executive of the Year from two publications. After that, he made a great move when he acquired Trent Richardson after the team was looking to replace the production left by the injury to Vick Ballard.

In fact, Colts management saw him as their catalyst in the future when they decided to extend his contract through 2019. He made so many convincing decisions that not only pleased management but their fan base too. It didn’t take long for attendance in their games to increase. Fans saw how determined Grigson was to improve the team’s weaknesses. He moved the team’s liabilities and turned them into awesome assets. Other than signing good players, he also got coaches who knew their roles. It was only a matter of time before good things happened to the team he vowed to take to the promised land.

Jack Elway Provides a Brief History of College Football

November 28, 2017 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

When summer ends, it is almost time for the yearly college football season to start. For Jack Elway, this has always been the most exciting time of the year. It is a time for families to come together and to celebrate the new school year. But what is the history of this sport, and where does it stand today?

Jack Elway on the History of College Football

In 1875, Harvard, Yale, and Columbia started to look into developing a college football league. Then, in 1876, the crossbar was added to the game. The field was also a whole lot larger than today’s field. In 1876, however, the size of the field was made smaller, turning it into the size we are familiar with today. Football didn’t become popular very quickly. In fact, it wasn’t until some ten or so years later that the game really started to gather attention. By the start of the 20th century, however, the sport had took off. Indeed, some 250 colleges had signed up to play.

By the 21st century, there were 230 different divisions, being division I, II, and III. Other division also exist, and this means that there are some 1,000 teams in total. Usually, each team plays between 12 and 14 games per season, depending on how well they have done. The industry, meanwhile, is huge. Millions of dollars are raised, but none of the players are paid a salary. Some colleges have come to rely on sponsorship money for the teams so much, that they couldn’t stay open without it.

Naturally, college football wouldn’t be the same without the fans. They are the biggest source of revenue as well. Fan loyalty is huge and they will attend any game they can get to. Fans buy the jerseys, hats, t-shirts, coffee cups, and other merchandise to tell the world who they support. In many cases, fans are ex-players themselves and most are also alumni from that particular college or university. It is a family affair, with many people of the same family supporting the same team.

Some of the top teams in the country bring in about a million dollars a year. This is made up of contributions, sponsorship deals, ticket sales, and merchandise sales. Clearly, therefore, colleges continue to function on this revenue, using it to improve their overall educational attainment as well. One big part of this is travel. College players have to be able to travel in order to play all those games that are not at home. Each year, they are part of the National Football League, and they hope to make it to the top. Players want to travel in comfort and style as well, and this is driving big business.

There is something unique about college football. These are players that genuinely do it for the love of their school, their team, and they community. It is not uncommon to see three generations of people celebrating the winnings of one team together, wearing their various vintage jerseys.
