How to deal with holiday stress

December 16, 2020 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

I don’t know about you, but as much as I love the holidays, I also find them to be incredibly stressful. Stress is hard enough to deal with as it is, but feeling stressed out at a time when you are meant to be enjoying yourself is so much worse. To top it off, we are in the middle of a pandemic, making life that much harder on all of us. Despite all the stress, we can all still have a wonderful holiday season. Here are a few ways to deal with holiday pandemic stress.

The first way to deal with holiday stress is to let yourself recognize that it’s okay to be stressed during the holidays. It’s disappointing that you can’t just feel completely happy at the holidays, but it’s unavoidable. Allowing yourself the space to recognize your feelings can help you cope with stress. Try to shift your thinking so that instead of feeling disappointed, you can accept that things aren’t perfect, and begin to focus on what you are grateful for. Doing this can help ease your stress and help you enjoy your holiday season more.

Another way to deal with holiday stress is to plan to do something fun and holiday-themed with a friend or family member. The pandemic has limited what we are all able to do, but you can still celebrate the season safely. Watch a movie with roommates. Or do caroling virtually with friends via video chat. You can also send out holiday cards with your family. I like getting my cards from Basic Invite. You can use pictures from a pre-covid trip for your cards. Or take a few pictures in your house instead. That would really capture the pandemic spirit, and would be a ton of fun. However you plan to celebrate the holiday season, be sure to enjoy yourself.

A final way to handle stress this holiday season is to do activities that help you relax. Try yoga, meditation, or deep breathing exercises. If you feel that you really must get out of the house, try to go somewhere you’ll be able to social distance properly. Try taking a walk or a run in the park. You can also drive around town and look at all the Christmas lights. If you live near a drive-in movie theater, you could go out and see a movie. Failing that, you can always eat out at a drive through. Getting out of the house or trying calming exercises can really help with stress. Just relax and try something that sounds interesting to you.

Even though it’s difficult to deal with holiday stress, you can ease your anxieties by relaxing, having fun, and recognizing your feelings of nervousness. I hope you and yours have a wonderful, calming, holiday season.

For many families, the perfect vacation involves getting away from the hustle and bustle of city and suburban life and spending time together somewhere where they can enjoy open spaces, fresh air, and plenty of outdoor activities. Some of the best memories families can create together involve exploring the great outdoors and making unique discoveries.

Vacations in Jackson Hole offer endless possibilities for exploration and adventure in and around one of the most famous and distinctive landscapes in all the world. There are plenty of excellent Jackson Hole vacation rentals available on the market, with everything from sleek and stylish hotel suites to traditional log cabins that make for novel and memorable places to stay.

When it comes to finding activities that will keep the entire family happy, you’ll never be short of things to consider. Of course, there are plenty of excellent places to go on walks and have picnics – and there are lots of companies offering various tours of the region, with expert tour guides who know how to keep things entertaining for people of all ages and interests. But many people overlook how much there is to do that doesn’t involve venturing off into the rugged wilderness – from interactive museums to fast paced activities that will get the adrenaline pumping, below you’ll find a list of some of the best things to do on a family vacation in Jackson Hole.

Visit the Rodeo

For lovers of great American traditions, the opportunity to experience a traditional rodeo is always an exciting prospect. But the Jackson Hole rodeo, which takes place every Wednesday and Saturday nights and has been a tradition since the 1890s, is more than just a glimpse into Western history for lovers of Americana: it is a fully interactive and immersive experience that will delight and impress young and old alike.

Whatever the weather, the rodeo goes on: so do remember to come prepared with the necessary clothing, and if you haven’t booked your tickets online in advance then it’s a good idea to show up early in order to get the best seats. It’s worth the effort, as the excitement of sitting in the front row and watching real cowboys and cowgirls go about their work is infectious – and it’s a memory that will stay with all the family forever.

 Wildlife Tours

There aren’t many children who don’t love animals – and most are absolutely fascinated by them, especially when they can observe them exhibiting their natural behaviours in the wild. The anticipation and excitement that comes with searching for elusive wild animals can inspire people of all ages, and the feeling of wonder when one is spotted is truly remarkable.

Thanks to its location near to both Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks, Jackson Hole is a great place to make your base if you’re planning on booking a wildlife tour in this iconic part of North America. There are multiple companies offering tours that are especially planned to provide the best chance of spotting lots of wild animals, and such tours operate throughout the whole year with various seasonal adaptations.

The children in your group can be engaged in the task of looking out for some of America’s best known and most loved native species, such as elks, bighorn sheep, black and grizzly bears, and the majestic bison themselves. And if you make sure you book with a reputable eco-tour provider, you can expect a knowledgeable and passionate tour guide who will know exactly how to keep the children engaged and learning for the duration of the tour.

Jackson Hole Children’s Museum

Not everything there is to do in Jackson Hole involves being outside: at the Jackson Hole Children’s Museum, all the family can come together to learn about the unique local landscape and wildlife using the fun interactive exhibits and activities.

Run by a team who are passionate about creating a fun environment in which children can play, create, and learn about the world around them, Jackson Hole Children’s Museum is the perfect place to go on those rainy days when exploring outdoors seems less than appealing – and for those days when you simply need a break from all the outdoors activities, but still want to engage with the history and geography of the local area.

The Alpine Slide

As long as everyone in your party is aged 2 and above, you should be sure not to miss the Alpine Slide. Perfect for adrenaline seekers, the Alpine Slide allows you to control your speed as you journey down 2,500 feet of track to the foot of Snow King Mountain.

Along the way, you’ll wind through beautiful woodland areas at your chosen speed and enjoy breath-taking views of the valley below. Children under 6 must ride with an adult for safety reasons, but absolutely no previous skills are required in order to ride.

If you’re currently planning a family vacation in Jackson Hole, you’re bound to be impressed with the great array of family friendly activities that are on offer in this world famous region. Whether you’re a family that’s full of adrenaline junkies, nature lovers or museum-goers (or a mix of all three!) you’re sure to find plenty of things to keep everyone occupied and happy. Above are just a few of the best family activities in the region that are bound to put smiles on everyone’s faces!
