Four points to consider when planning your 2020 festive party

November 25, 2020 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic still greatly affecting everyday life all around the world, it’s not surprising that most people will be glad to see the back of 2020. However, due to the pandemic, you might not be able to celebrate the end of the year with a huge party as you would other years. However, all is not lost as with some additional considerations, you can still host a party this festive season. Here are four points to consider when planning your 2020 festive party.

1. In-person or on Zoom

Many regions around the world have tightened restrictions in an effort to prevent a spike in infection rates over the winter period, and as a result you may not be able to host a huge number of guests at your house. Throwing your party over Zoom can be a great alternative once you get past the awkwardness of being on camera, and has the added benefit of being accessible to friends and loved ones who you wouldn’t normally be able to celebrate with due to distance. If you do decide to have your party in-person, limit the numbers to only your nearest and dearest, and ensure that there is plenty of hand sanitizer and hand washing facilities available.

 2. Food and drink

From pigs in blankets to mulled wine, most people can’t resist the smell of delicious Christmas food and drink. If you’d normally host your festive celebration at your favorite restaurant, that might not be an option for you this year. However, ongoing COVID-19 restrictions do not stop you from enjoying your favorite restaurant meals, with many establishments now offering delivery services, bringing their speciality dishes to your own front door. For instance, you could order a vegetarian meal box delivery for a delicious meat-free feast. If hosting your party online, make sure all guests are armed with their favorite tipple. You could even have some fun by trying to recreate an online cocktail recipe.

3. Decorations

Nothing says ‘Christmas’ like a Christmas tree and fairy lights, and while you no doubt take great pleasure in your annual home decoration ritual, there are additional decoration points to consider for Christmas 2020. If you are planning on hosting a lot of parties on Zoom, make sure that your recording space looks aesthetically festive. You could record next to a roaring fire, if you are lucky to have one, or with your Christmas tree in the background. Or, if your recording space also doubles as your work station, add some Christmas décor for your desk. A miniature Christmas tree will look cute and Christmassy during your Zoom calls.

4. Entertainment

You might decide not to plan any specific entertainment for your party, instead using it as a chance for guests to chat and catch up with one another, accompanied by some festive tunes in the background. Or, you could plan to play a few rounds of classic board games, or make some festive crafts.

How to Host the Perfect Baby Shower

April 13, 2018 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

The impending arrival of a baby is an exciting moment in any mom-to-be’s life, and it’s a special time to be shared with family and friends. It’s a time for celebration, which is exactly why baby showers are held. If you’ve taken the lead in hosting a baby shower for a close friend or family member who is expecting a bundle of joy, then obviously you want to do all you can to ensure it’s a special and memorable event for her. This can mean a bit of stress and rushing around on your part, unless you’ve got a plan that you can follow.

Here we’ll take a look at tips that will help you host the perfect baby shower, keeping you organized and on schedule with very little stress and worry.

Will the Shower be a Surprise or Will the Mom-to-Be Know About It?

The first thing you’ll want to figure out is if you plan on hosting a surprise baby shower or if you plan on letting her know. There are obviously pros and cons to both sides, so it’s really personal preference. Giving the mother-to-be notice at least makes the event a bit less stressful to plan, and it can be less stressful on her too as she won’t be waiting and wondering when it’s going to happen.

Choose a Location and Date

Next on the to-do list is to choose a location and date. Your guest list will help to determine the location as it will dictate how much space is needed. It’s quite common for the host to hold the baby shower in her home as long as space permits. At least by holding it in your house you won’t have to worry about transporting food, beverages, and décor to an outside location.

If you choose not to hold the shower in your home then a catering hall or restaurant can make for a fabulous location. Keep in mind you will probably have to book well in advance.

Send Invitations with Plenty of Notice

As far as the invitations go, you’ll want to send them out as early as possible. Ideally you want to give six to eight weeks’ notice on the shower, and then have your RSVP date set no later than one week before the shower is to take place.

Give Thought to Food, Beverages, and Décor

In order for the shower to feel festive and special, then food, beverages, and décor are needed. There is no shortage of baby shower décor out there from balloons, to signs, and fun banners that you can hang. You can choose a theme and have that carry-through in the décor and the cake. And speaking of cakes, the Allcakeprices.Com site is a great resource when it comes to all things cake-related, in particular pricing.

As for the food, finger foods and light appetizers tend to be a popular option. They are easy to eat, you don’t have to sit down at a table to enjoy them, and they can be served throughout the shower.

By using these tips you’ll find that the planning process goes much smoother, allowing you to enjoy the event rather than worry and stress about it.

Five Party Venues in London

January 23, 2018 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

Whether one is looking to throw a birthday party or a work party, there are tons of wonderful party venues in London for one to consider. There are different options; from bars to relaxing places with great views. Some are good for a celebration with a few friends, and others are perfect for big groups. Whatever one is looking for, London most likely has it, and here are a few of the many highlights for party venues around the city.

Lost Society

This is one of the most unique bars in London. From Monday to Thursday, Lost society is a typical London bar with a large variety of foods and drinks, but once the weekend hits, it becomes a different place. On Fridays and Saturdays, it is full of music, more so resembling a club than a bar. On Sundays, there is something that they call The Tea Party, which is a bit more fancy with cocktails and different foods. While this isn’t a place that can be rented out for parties, it is a great place to go spend an evening out celebrating with your friends.

Tea Party

Yes, in London this is an actual option. This pink, frilly room looks like it’s out of a storybook. One can rent a room for a few hours to have a magical party full of tea, small sandwiches, and lots of treats. It is the perfect venue for those who are looking for a unique environment to dress up and talk to. It seats between 12 and 40 people, and as Tea Party’s motto says–you’ll find a reason!

Bounce

For those looking for a sportier party venue option, bounce might be perfect. This is another bar option, but it’s a bar option with a twist. It’s not uncommon for a bar to have pool tables, but this bar has ping pong tables too. This would be a fun party venue to drink and have ping-pong tournaments. There are also some tasty food options to choose from.

Rockwell House

This venue is located on a rooftop, overlooking the city. This is a great option for moderately sized parties, where one is wanting control of the theme and set up. The view of the city is amazing from all sides of this location. When a private party isn’t being held, one might find art galleries, movies being filmed, or nightclubs at this location.

Tamesis Dock

Tamesis Dock is a popular adult party boat in London. There is room for nearly 150 people on this boat, so it is a decent sized party venue. It is located in the river of Westminster Palace, so the view is quite nice. It’s a great platform for drinking and spending time with friends or a sober party where everyone can enjoy food and the view. When it is not rented out, admission to the boat is free, so this is one party venue they could try for free before committing.
