4 Reasons to Take a Road Trip for Your Next Vacation

November 23, 2020 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

There are many different types of vacation that you can take, from camping to staying in a luxury resort. However, there is one type of vacation that is often overlooked yet has plenty of benefits – a road trip.

Instead of staying cooped up in the same hotel room for a week or two, why not choose a road trip for your next vacation and experience a sense of adventure and freedom? In this guide, we have listed four of the top reasons for you to take a road trip!

Road Trips Can Show You Unexpected New Places

When you book a traditional vacation, you may be likely to choose somewhere that you are already familiar with. Even if you deliberately choose somewhere new to you, you are still likely to research each attraction and sight you plan to visit, so it will not feel quite as adventurous or spontaneous.

Although you do usually need to do at least some planning for a road trip before you set off, with a road trip you are much more likely to randomly stumble across interesting and unique sights on your route that you knew nothing about before. This can be an amazing experience of discovery.

Road Trips Can Be a Change of Pace

Sometimes what you need is a welcome change of pace from a repetitive routine. Even when you are on vacation, you can end up in routines quickly and even become bored, especially if you are staying in the same place for the whole time.

Road trips mean that every day is different, and there is always something new to do. If you need to get out of your comfort zone, a road trip can be a great way to do this.

The Budget is Flexible

You can plan a road trip whether your budget is just a couple of hundred bucks or a few thousand. Because you have the option to stay in accommodation from cheap motels to expensive hotels along the way, you can be very flexible with how much you spend. The same goes for food, too!

As long as you have enough money for gas, and ideally some spare for emergencies, you can take a road trip. If you are looking for a vehicle to use on your road trip, there are of sites like bmgscooters.com where you can pick up a motorcycle for a low price.

Road Trips Can Help You Learn About Yourself

There is something about sending time outdoors in nature (even if you are in a vehicle) that seems to “reset” the brain and give us time to think about what is important to us and what we value in life. Getting away from the stresses of town or city life for a while can do wonders for our mental health.

Even if you find the trip stressful and the only thing that you learn is just how much you appreciate your home comforts, that is still a valuable lesson!

Visiting USA? Consider These 7 Ways to Stay Healthy

March 6, 2020 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

The USA is an excellent holiday destination; you can experience the sun and sea in Hawaii, or you can explore snowy plains in Alaska. The giant country is diverse and beautiful, so there is definitely something for everyone there – but if you are thinking about visiting the USA, there are a few things you should do before and during your trip to stay healthy.

Here are seven tips to help you stay healthy during your trip to the USA.

Get Travel Insurance Beforehand

Before you travel, you should set up health insurance that will cover international treatment. This means that you can enjoy your trip without worrying about getting sick – and if you do get sick, you will get the treatment you need so that you will be healthy again in no time.

Make Sure Your Vaccinations Are Up To Date

You should also visit your doctor for a general check-up before you go. Make sure that your vaccinations are up to date, and ask your doctor if there are any specific vaccinations that you should get before going to the USA.  You can also contact the Norwegian Institute of Public Health for vaccination advice.

Pack Medication

You should also pack any daily medication you will need (such as insulin or allergy tablets), and you may also want to pack specific medication for the area you are visiting. Some states in America have mosquitos and other insects that can bite you, so you may want to pack insect repellent, and you may also want to pack anti-diarrheal medication and painkillers.

Avoid Drinking Too Much

You should avoid drinking too much alcohol. This is because excessive drinking will make you feel dehydrated and sick, and this can cause serious problems if you are in a very hot area. Sure, you may want to have one or two in the evening; after all, you are on holiday! However, you should try to keep drinking to a minimum if you really want to stay healthy during your trip. And if you do end up drinking too much, it could be worth booking an IV hydration drip from resetiv.com to replace electrolytes and reduce inflammation.

Protect Your Skin

You should also pack SPF to protect your skin from the sun. This may seem like it is only a problem if you are going somewhere really warm (such as Hawaii), but it is also possible to get sunburnt in cold states such as Alaska. So pack an SPF that suits your skin, and wear a hat during the day if you are in a state that is very hot.

Eat Well

You should also try to eat well during your trip. Lots of people mainly east cheap carbs, so they don’t spend too much on food, but it is important to eat nutrients and protein too. This makes it much easier for you to stay healthy during your trip, and it means you will have more energy to explore and have fun.

Stay Clean

It is important to stay clean during your trip. Wash your hands regularly, clean under your nails and pack hand sanitizer and anti-bacterial wipes.

A Week Long Itinerary For Morocco

July 22, 2019 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

Source: TheUjulala on Pixabay

Travelling, even if it’s only for a week or two on holiday somewhere, is always an exciting time. Whether it’s your first or fifth time to a place doesn’t matter – you usually have a great time nonetheless, but what if you want something a bit more challenging with some deep culture and interesting traditions to experience as well? No worries – that’s why we’ve put together this easy to follow, handy guide to a week in Morocco – one of northern Africa’s true gems.

Marrakesh

Marrakesh is one of the more inviting cities in Morocco, with Rabat and Casablanca being your typical big, industry based and overcrowded cities. Marrakesh on the other hand, is a smaller area with a lot of things to see and do. Whether you like history or culture or a bit of both, Marrakesh is the place to be. With a maze of souks, a huge open market by night in Jema el-Fna Square, and numerous attractions such as the Saadian Tombs, Marrakesh is a great place to start your Moroccan journey. Book a cheap flight to Marrakesh and make sure to stay in a riad – a traditional Moroccan guesthouse, providing a real taste of life in this beautiful country.

We’d recommend around two days in Marrakesh to get a good feel for it. This allows you ample time to explore the souks and back streets, tombs, mosques and generally get around the city to other points that may interest you. Don’t miss out on a luxurious hammam (steam bath and scrub) by booking into the likes of Les Bains de Marrakesh, a beautiful spa with swimming pool not far from Jema el-Fna.

Fez

Fez (sometimes spelled Fes) is a unique city, similar to Marrakesh but with one huge, important difference: Fes is home to a huge network of impressive leather dyeing vats. These vats have been in use for hundreds of years and much of the leather product you can find in the city has been tanned, dyed and produced right in the city with the help of these vats. While a bit of a smelly endeavour, it does give visitors a great look into the leather industry of the city, as well as some really cool photo opportunities from a bit higher vantage points.

Spend at least a day or two in Fez to explore it in detail with its walled Medina, leather vats and colourful, old-world charm. As some of the experience can be similar to Marrakesh, we’d recommend staying only two nights in one and one night in the other.

The North

The north coast of Morocco is home to a number of interesting towns and villages set along waterfronts with great opportunities to kick back and relax on sandy beaches while sipping mint tea and coffee. Throughout the northern region, mountainous villages beckon the traveller who wants to escape the hot plains of the rest of the country, with places like Chefchaouen being enormously popular places for backpackers and luxury travellers alike due to its unique buildings, almost all of which are painted in different blue hues.

Stay at least two nights in Chefchaouen to take a load off and get away from the heat and hectic vibe of Fez or Marrakesh. This gives you lots of time to explore the town and get some of the most impressive photos of your life!

West Coast

The west coast of Morocco is home to numerous different towns and villages, some with resorts and impressive yoga/meditation or surfing retreats. The city of Essouira is a great stop to make, especially for Game of Thrones fans who want to explore some of this famous series’ filming locations. Aside from that though, Essouira is a great place to just explore, get lost and sample delicious street food. Oh, and did we mention it’s where the annual Gnoua World Music Festival is held in June? Book hotels well in advance though – they fill up fast!

We’d recommend one to two days in Essouira, however you can spend a whole week on this coast (or more!) if you’re learning yoga, surfing or the like. You won’t regret the wide open spaces and feeling of time standing still as you watch the sunset reflect of harbour walls or clock towers with gulls cawing and fishermen bringing in unique catches like conger eel or blue shark.

The Sahara

An absolute must for anyone who is coming to Morocco. Tours to the desert can be booked in advance or through different agencies once you’re in the country. The Sahara is a wonderful experience where you stop off for a night in a gorge along the way from Marrakesh, before heading out to the dunes with Berber tribespeople on camelback to a camp nestled in the sand. Something has to be said for the night sky in the Sahara – what with an unobscured view of the Milky Way and millions upon billions of stars. The usual time for the tour is 2 full days, with breakfasts and dinners included as well as accommodation.

So if you’re looking for a great getaway this year, why not consider heading out to Morocco for a bit of sun and sand (maybe not sea!). With such a rich culture and heritage and ample opportunity to explore beautiful walled cities and medinas, you will find yourself dreaming of Morocco time and again. So book yourself a cheap flight to Morocco and enjoy this beautiful country this year.

3 Good Reasons to Travel

March 31, 2019 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

Travel is good for us because it transforms us fundamentally. By taking a desperately needed break from the daily grind, unplugging from the pushes and pulls of technology, and immersing yourself in new places and activities, you’ll have an easier time releasing your unwanted habits. Additionally, it’s empowering when you surround yourself with those who don’t know your life story. It serves to reinforce the willingness to broaden those horizons, to get yourself unstuck, and to begin to move in directions that might be new and exciting.

There are quite a few more reasons for traveling. Here’s a quick look at a few.

It Can be Good for Your Health

When you’re traveling you have the chance to skip the alarm clock and catch up on your much-needed sleep. Additionally, the quality of your sleep is better. Vacations that are active, such as hiking or golf trips, can help overcome the stress of your job. Getting a bit of sun during the colder months, like in Mexico, can help to fight against Seasonal Affective Disorder if you happen to live in climes that are deprived of the sun in those months. After hiking Machu Pichu or cruising the Caribbean, you’ll likely return home feeling more refreshed and able to tackle whatever might come your way.

Another health-related reason to travel may be to get treatment for an illness or condition. In some cases, seeing a specialist in another city is a necessary step. If the treatment is for a drug or alcohol addiction, a change of scenery is not just an aesthetic consideration. By leaving your comfortable neighborhood where all your friends are, the ones supporting your habit, you remove one stumbling block to your recovery. If you find yourself in need of help with an addiction, contact one of the drug treatment programs in Cincinnati or Tampa for example. Pick somewhere that offers you the best chance of getting and staying clean.

It Creates Jobs

Many jobs worldwide are supported by the travel industry. Think about it, those comfortable outfits you need for your vacation were created by someone who might not even be in the same country you’re in. The servers at the restaurants you’ll dine at on your trip are paid by your travel dollars (or pesos). All those people who work on cruise ships wouldn’t have a job if it weren’t for people like you who crave the open water. So just remember when you’re laying on a sunny beach in Destin that you’re helping to support jobs there.

It Can Bridge Cultures

Travel can open your eyes to any new culture you might visit and assist you when it comes to gaining a better understanding of the world. It fosters things like empathy and tolerance. Additionally, it assists those in other countries when it comes to gaining an understanding of where you’re from. Remember that when you’re in another country, you’re an ambassador for your own, so go out of your way to be nice to people. Be polite to shopkeepers, tip your chambermaid, and be patient with the servers at the places where you’ll dine.

Don’t forget the fun! Travel can bring a bit of joy into an otherwise dull life while you also have the opportunity to reconnect with your family. Think about it. Aren’t at least a few of your best memories things like building sand castles on a beach somewhere with your kids, or maybe even exploring a brand-new city hand in hand with your significant other? That happiness is a contagious thing too.

January 7, 2019 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

When in Boston, do not miss out on its bevy of churches. Boston has a rich colonial history and has some of the best churches in America. So in case, you are in awe of history, and you like discovering the unsaid and untold, do make your way to these churches as they have a rich history. You can plan a group church tour to make the most of it. You can charter a private Boston group tour bus rental. However, to make things easy for you, here’s how you can plan a group tour to some of the sought after churches in Boston.

The Old North Church:

You cannot miss out on the Old North Church when in Boston. It has a rich history, and it’s worth a visit. Group tours are easier and more feasible, so you can visit the website of the church and make a large group tour reservation. Or, you can give a call on 617-523-6676. All you need to do is mention the name of your group, name the leader or the manager of your group, number of people in the group and your desired date of reservation. If you are lucky enough, your bookings will be done for the desired dates. There’s a touring option called go-behind-the-scene. This particular option helps you garner an in-depth knowledge of the church. You can climb the stairs of the Old North Steeple to the bell ringing chamber. Learn about the rich history of the steeple, which was toppled twice by the hurricane. You can walk between the 37 tombs which have been built under the Old North between 1732 and 1860. Learn about the crypts and its history etc. So, altogether the entire tour comes across as an enriching process and it indeed is.

Emmanuel Episcopal Church:

This can be called the hidden gem of Boston. It stands on a pre-revolutionary war fort called the Cumberland. It provides tunnel tours on every Saturday and Sunday without any prior reservation. So, do not miss out on these tours. The 15-mins long tour will take you down lanes rich in history. The tour includes a cursory view of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church and its architecture and mostly focuses on the tunnels which once served as a storage house for the food and also sheltered fleeing slaves.

Trinity Church Boston:

Trinity Church Boston has been designated as one of the ten important buildings of America by the American Institute of Architects. More than 70,000 people visit this building every year. The church offers free tours every Sunday. So you along with your group can come for this tour on a Sunday and make the most of it. These tours are conducted by expert volunteers. There’s a tour calendar as well. So,  try to keep yourself updated with the calendar such that you don’t miss out on any important dates. The free tours start off at the Eagle Lectern and they end with the last prayer service in the morning.  On the other days, you can book tickets for the tour. The church charges $10 per person.

Park Street Church:

Park Street Church was built in the year 1809. This church is known for its theological history. Also, it is known for its contribution to society on a larger spectrum.  It has fought against slavery and supported women suffrage and has also promoted various reforms. This church should be on the top of your group tour list in Boston. You can visit the church’s website, to plan a group tour. There are various events all around the year, which will help you plan your tours accordingly. You must refer to its calendar for a better insight. There’s no one singular kind of a group tour as such, but then there are various events which are no less than group tours.

Five Party Venues in London

January 23, 2018 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

Whether one is looking to throw a birthday party or a work party, there are tons of wonderful party venues in London for one to consider. There are different options; from bars to relaxing places with great views. Some are good for a celebration with a few friends, and others are perfect for big groups. Whatever one is looking for, London most likely has it, and here are a few of the many highlights for party venues around the city.

Lost Society

This is one of the most unique bars in London. From Monday to Thursday, Lost society is a typical London bar with a large variety of foods and drinks, but once the weekend hits, it becomes a different place. On Fridays and Saturdays, it is full of music, more so resembling a club than a bar. On Sundays, there is something that they call The Tea Party, which is a bit more fancy with cocktails and different foods. While this isn’t a place that can be rented out for parties, it is a great place to go spend an evening out celebrating with your friends.

Tea Party

Yes, in London this is an actual option. This pink, frilly room looks like it’s out of a storybook. One can rent a room for a few hours to have a magical party full of tea, small sandwiches, and lots of treats. It is the perfect venue for those who are looking for a unique environment to dress up and talk to. It seats between 12 and 40 people, and as Tea Party’s motto says–you’ll find a reason!

Bounce

For those looking for a sportier party venue option, bounce might be perfect. This is another bar option, but it’s a bar option with a twist. It’s not uncommon for a bar to have pool tables, but this bar has ping pong tables too. This would be a fun party venue to drink and have ping-pong tournaments. There are also some tasty food options to choose from.

Rockwell House

This venue is located on a rooftop, overlooking the city. This is a great option for moderately sized parties, where one is wanting control of the theme and set up. The view of the city is amazing from all sides of this location. When a private party isn’t being held, one might find art galleries, movies being filmed, or nightclubs at this location.

Tamesis Dock

Tamesis Dock is a popular adult party boat in London. There is room for nearly 150 people on this boat, so it is a decent sized party venue. It is located in the river of Westminster Palace, so the view is quite nice. It’s a great platform for drinking and spending time with friends or a sober party where everyone can enjoy food and the view. When it is not rented out, admission to the boat is free, so this is one party venue they could try for free before committing.

Of course, there are plenty of excellent places to go on walks and have picnics – and there are lots of companies offering various tours of the region, with expert tour guides who know how to keep things entertaining for people of all ages and interests. But many people overlook how much there is to do that doesn’t involve venturing off into the rugged wilderness – from interactive museums to fast paced activities that will get the adrenaline pumping, below you’ll find a list of some of the best things to do on a family vacation in Jackson Hole.

Visit the Rodeo

For lovers of great American traditions, the opportunity to experience a traditional rodeo is always an exciting prospect. But the Jackson Hole rodeo, which takes place every Wednesday and Saturday nights and has been a tradition since the 1890s, is more than just a glimpse into Western history for lovers of Americana: it is a fully interactive and immersive experience that will delight and impress young and old alike.

Whatever the weather, the rodeo goes on: so do remember to come prepared with the necessary clothing, and if you haven’t booked your tickets online in advance then it’s a good idea to show up early in order to get the best seats. It’s worth the effort, as the excitement of sitting in the front row and watching real cowboys and cowgirls go about their work is infectious – and it’s a memory that will stay with all the family forever.

 Wildlife Tours

There aren’t many children who don’t love animals – and most are absolutely fascinated by them, especially when they can observe them exhibiting their natural behaviours in the wild. The anticipation and excitement that comes with searching for elusive wild animals can inspire people of all ages, and the feeling of wonder when one is spotted is truly remarkable.

Thanks to its location near to both Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks, Jackson Hole is a great place to make your base if you’re planning on booking a wildlife tour in this iconic part of North America. There are multiple companies offering tours that are especially planned to provide the best chance of spotting lots of wild animals, and such tours operate throughout the whole year with various seasonal adaptations.

The children in your group can be engaged in the task of looking out for some of America’s best known and most loved native species, such as elks, bighorn sheep, black and grizzly bears, and the majestic bison themselves. And if you make sure you book with a reputable eco-tour provider, you can expect a knowledgeable and passionate tour guide who will know exactly how to keep the children engaged and learning for the duration of the tour.

Jackson Hole Children’s Museum

Not everything there is to do in Jackson Hole involves being outside: at the Jackson Hole Children’s Museum, all the family can come together to learn about the unique local landscape and wildlife using the fun interactive exhibits and activities.

Run by a team who are passionate about creating a fun environment in which children can play, create, and learn about the world around them, Jackson Hole Children’s Museum is the perfect place to go on those rainy days when exploring outdoors seems less than appealing – and for those days when you simply need a break from all the outdoors activities, but still want to engage with the history and geography of the local area.

The Alpine Slide

As long as everyone in your party is aged 2 and above, you should be sure not to miss the Alpine Slide. Perfect for adrenaline seekers, the Alpine Slide allows you to control your speed as you journey down 2,500 feet of track to the foot of Snow King Mountain.

Along the way, you’ll wind through beautiful woodland areas at your chosen speed and enjoy breath-taking views of the valley below. Children under 6 must ride with an adult for safety reasons, but absolutely no previous skills are required in order to ride.
