Visiting USA? Consider These 7 Ways to Stay Healthy

March 6, 2020 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

The USA is an excellent holiday destination; you can experience the sun and sea in Hawaii, or you can explore snowy plains in Alaska. The giant country is diverse and beautiful, so there is definitely something for everyone there – but if you are thinking about visiting the USA, there are a few things you should do before and during your trip to stay healthy.

Here are seven tips to help you stay healthy during your trip to the USA.

Get Travel Insurance Beforehand

Before you travel, you should set up health insurance that will cover international treatment. This means that you can enjoy your trip without worrying about getting sick – and if you do get sick, you will get the treatment you need so that you will be healthy again in no time.

Make Sure Your Vaccinations Are Up To Date

You should also visit your doctor for a general check-up before you go. Make sure that your vaccinations are up to date, and ask your doctor if there are any specific vaccinations that you should get before going to the USA.  You can also contact the Norwegian Institute of Public Health for vaccination advice.

Pack Medication

You should also pack any daily medication you will need (such as insulin or allergy tablets), and you may also want to pack specific medication for the area you are visiting. Some states in America have mosquitos and other insects that can bite you, so you may want to pack insect repellent, and you may also want to pack anti-diarrheal medication and painkillers.

Avoid Drinking Too Much

You should avoid drinking too much alcohol. This is because excessive drinking will make you feel dehydrated and sick, and this can cause serious problems if you are in a very hot area. Sure, you may want to have one or two in the evening; after all, you are on holiday! However, you should try to keep drinking to a minimum if you really want to stay healthy during your trip. And if you do end up drinking too much, it could be worth booking an IV hydration drip from resetiv.com to replace electrolytes and reduce inflammation.

Protect Your Skin

You should also pack SPF to protect your skin from the sun. This may seem like it is only a problem if you are going somewhere really warm (such as Hawaii), but it is also possible to get sunburnt in cold states such as Alaska. So pack an SPF that suits your skin, and wear a hat during the day if you are in a state that is very hot.

Eat Well

You should also try to eat well during your trip. Lots of people mainly east cheap carbs, so they don’t spend too much on food, but it is important to eat nutrients and protein too. This makes it much easier for you to stay healthy during your trip, and it means you will have more energy to explore and have fun.

Stay Clean

It is important to stay clean during your trip. Wash your hands regularly, clean under your nails and pack hand sanitizer and anti-bacterial wipes.

So in case, you are in awe of history, and you like discovering the unsaid and untold, do make your way to these churches as they have a rich history. You can plan a group church tour to make the most of it. You can charter a private Boston group tour bus rental. However, to make things easy for you, here’s how you can plan a group tour to some of the sought after churches in Boston.

The Old North Church:

You cannot miss out on the Old North Church when in Boston. It has a rich history, and it’s worth a visit. Group tours are easier and more feasible, so you can visit the website of the church and make a large group tour reservation. Or, you can give a call on 617-523-6676. All you need to do is mention the name of your group, name the leader or the manager of your group, number of people in the group and your desired date of reservation. If you are lucky enough, your bookings will be done for the desired dates. There’s a touring option called go-behind-the-scene. This particular option helps you garner an in-depth knowledge of the church. You can climb the stairs of the Old North Steeple to the bell ringing chamber. Learn about the rich history of the steeple, which was toppled twice by the hurricane. You can walk between the 37 tombs which have been built under the Old North between 1732 and 1860. Learn about the crypts and its history etc. So, altogether the entire tour comes across as an enriching process and it indeed is.

Emmanuel Episcopal Church:

This can be called the hidden gem of Boston. It stands on a pre-revolutionary war fort called the Cumberland. It provides tunnel tours on every Saturday and Sunday without any prior reservation. So, do not miss out on these tours. The 15-mins long tour will take you down lanes rich in history. The tour includes a cursory view of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church and its architecture and mostly focuses on the tunnels which once served as a storage house for the food and also sheltered fleeing slaves.

Trinity Church Boston:

Trinity Church Boston has been designated as one of the ten important buildings of America by the American Institute of Architects. More than 70,000 people visit this building every year. The church offers free tours every Sunday. So you along with your group can come for this tour on a Sunday and make the most of it. These tours are conducted by expert volunteers. There’s a tour calendar as well. So,  try to keep yourself updated with the calendar such that you don’t miss out on any important dates. The free tours start off at the Eagle Lectern and they end with the last prayer service in the morning.  On the other days, you can book tickets for the tour. The church charges $10 per person.

Park Street Church:

Park Street Church was built in the year 1809. This church is known for its theological history. Also, it is known for its contribution to society on a larger spectrum.  It has fought against slavery and supported women suffrage and has also promoted various reforms. This church should be on the top of your group tour list in Boston. You can visit the church’s website, to plan a group tour. There are various events all around the year, which will help you plan your tours accordingly. You must refer to its calendar for a better insight. There’s no one singular kind of a group tour as such, but then there are various events which are no less than group tours.

Whatever the weather, the rodeo goes on: so do remember to come prepared with the necessary clothing, and if you haven’t booked your tickets online in advance then it’s a good idea to show up early in order to get the best seats. It’s worth the effort, as the excitement of sitting in the front row and watching real cowboys and cowgirls go about their work is infectious – and it’s a memory that will stay with all the family forever.

 Wildlife Tours

There aren’t many children who don’t love animals – and most are absolutely fascinated by them, especially when they can observe them exhibiting their natural behaviours in the wild. The anticipation and excitement that comes with searching for elusive wild animals can inspire people of all ages, and the feeling of wonder when one is spotted is truly remarkable.

And if you make sure you book with a reputable eco-tour provider, you can expect a knowledgeable and passionate tour guide who will know exactly how to keep the children engaged and learning for the duration of the tour.

Jackson Hole Children’s Museum

Not everything there is to do in Jackson Hole involves being outside: at the Jackson Hole Children’s Museum, all the family can come together to learn about the unique local landscape and wildlife using the fun interactive exhibits and activities.

Run by a team who are passionate about creating a fun environment in which children can play, create, and learn about the world around them, Jackson Hole Children’s Museum is the perfect place to go on those rainy days when exploring outdoors seems less than appealing – and for those days when you simply need a break from all the outdoors activities, but still want to engage with the history and geography of the local area.

The Alpine Slide

As long as everyone in your party is aged 2 and above, you should be sure not to miss the Alpine Slide. Perfect for adrenaline seekers, the Alpine Slide allows you to control your speed as you journey down 2,500 feet of track to the foot of Snow King Mountain.

Along the way, you’ll wind through beautiful woodland areas at your chosen speed and enjoy breath-taking views of the valley below. Children under 6 must ride with an adult for safety reasons, but absolutely no previous skills are required in order to ride.

Whether you’re a family that’s full of adrenaline junkies, nature lovers or museum-goers (or a mix of all three!) you’re sure to find plenty of things to keep everyone occupied and happy. Jack Elway Provides a Brief History of College Football

November 28, 2017 by Miriam Dunning Leave a Comment

When summer ends, it is almost time for the yearly college football season to start. For Jack Elway, this has always been the most exciting time of the year. It is a time for families to come together and to celebrate the new school year. But what is the history of this sport, and where does it stand today?

Jack Elway on the History of College Football

In 1875, Harvard, Yale, and Columbia started to look into developing a college football league. Then, in 1876, the crossbar was added to the game. The field was also a whole lot larger than today’s field. In 1876, however, the size of the field was made smaller, turning it into the size we are familiar with today. Football didn’t become popular very quickly. In fact, it wasn’t until some ten or so years later that the game really started to gather attention. By the start of the 20th century, however, the sport had took off. Indeed, some 250 colleges had signed up to play.

By the 21st century, there were 230 different divisions, being division I, II, and III. Other division also exist, and this means that there are some 1,000 teams in total. Usually, each team plays between 12 and 14 games per season, depending on how well they have done. The industry, meanwhile, is huge. Millions of dollars are raised, but none of the players are paid a salary. Some colleges have come to rely on sponsorship money for the teams so much, that they couldn’t stay open without it.

Naturally, college football wouldn’t be the same without the fans. They are the biggest source of revenue as well. Fan loyalty is huge and they will attend any game they can get to. Fans buy the jerseys, hats, t-shirts, coffee cups, and other merchandise to tell the world who they support. In many cases, fans are ex-players themselves and most are also alumni from that particular college or university. It is a family affair, with many people of the same family supporting the same team.

Some of the top teams in the country bring in about a million dollars a year. This is made up of contributions, sponsorship deals, ticket sales, and merchandise sales. Clearly, therefore, colleges continue to function on this revenue, using it to improve their overall educational attainment as well. One big part of this is travel. College players have to be able to travel in order to play all those games that are not at home. Each year, they are part of the National Football League, and they hope to make it to the top. Players want to travel in comfort and style as well, and this is driving big business.

There is something unique about college football. These are players that genuinely do it for the love of their school, their team, and they community. It is not uncommon to see three generations of people celebrating the winnings of one team together, wearing their various vintage jerseys.
